Transitional Support
The release date for all prisoners is a major milestone and is so important that prisoners often designate their remaining time based on their release date. With this excitement, however, comes apprehension. This is especially true for those that have been incarcerated for a significant amount of time and have limited financial and familial resources. Set Free on the Inside Ministries recognizes this challenge and works closely with correctional facility case managers to identify housing opportunities, potential employment opportunities, help securing identification documents, healthcare access and coverage, and other pertinent resources that are necessary for successful living in society. Prior to an inmate’s release, Set Free on the Inside Ministries staff and volunteers solicit in-kind donations for these transitioning men and contact many programs that offer housing opportunities and jobs in advance of their release. Set Free on the Inside Ministries has a goal of finalizing arrangements for housing, documentation, and a potential job two weeks prior to being released. Within the next five years, Set Free on the Inside Ministries plans to build multiple housing facilities that would be accessible to those who have actively participated in the organization while incarcerated. This transitional housing program will be available for those in the program for up to two years after release.
